Oriental Lotus Blossom - Tutorial
In this day and age of the Copic marker, I find I still like to get out my Stampin’ Up markers and color every once in a while. Today is one of those days.
Supplies:
Stamps: Stampin’ Up Oriental Gardens
Paper: Stampin’ Up Very Vanilla, River Rock, Bravo Burgundy
Ink: Stampin’ Up Blush Blossom, True Thyme and River Rock
Accessories: Ribbon, Brads, Stampin’ Up Markers Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Creamy Caramel, Blush Blossom & Baroque Burgundy, White Gel Pen, Sponge, Versamark Marker
Stamped flower with Blush Blossom ink on Very Vanilla card stock.
Colored stem in first with a Certainly Celery marker and then used an Old Olive maker along the left side (shadowed side) of the stem. Went over the entire stem again with Certainly Celery marker to blend the two colors together.
Colored the inked areas of the flower in with a Blush Blossom marker.
Colored over the darkest areas (shadow areas) with a Baroque Burgundy marker.
Went over the two colors where they meet each other with the Blush Blossom marker to get a better graduation in color.
Used a Creamy Caramel marker to make dots on the center of the large flower.
Used a White Gel pen to color in the lightest areas of the flower and bud.
Sponged on Blush Blossom ink around the outside edge of the card stock. Leaving the middle area light.
Sponged River Rock ink under the flower with a circular motion.
Sponged on True Thyme ink under the flower to make it darker in the center and right under the flower.
Used the gel pen again to clean up where my sponging darkened the white on the flowers.
Stamped flowers with River Rock ink on River Rock card stock.
Sponged around the outside edge of this panel with River Rock ink.
Used a Versamark Marker to define the undersides of the flowers.
Assembled card and decided it needed a hint of color on the background panel. So I colored just a hint of Blush Blossom marker on the flowers undersides and then colored the stems with Certainly Celery marker.
And there were have it, another card done.
Glad you could visit my blog today. I hope this inspires you to get out your markers and play a little.
May your day be filled with sweet smelling flowers and sunshine!
Until tomorrow. . . . . . .

Wow!….Wow..wow..wow!!!!!This is a fantastic tutorial and gorgeous creation, Michelle. I love the image and your layering of colors.
This is just stunning. I LOVE IT.
Another gorgeous work of art!! Thanks for the great tutorial.
Michelle, Your coloring just blows me away. This card is just amazing.
Michelle, I loved your tutorial today. It’s a great reminder that you don’t have to begin an image with a black or brown outline and then color in. The flowers turned out so soft looking. TFS
Thanks so much for the tutorial and sharing. In the age of copic markers its a bummer if you don’t have them (like me) so…thank you, thank you for showing us you can create beautiful things with our stampin up markers as well. I love everything about this card!
Great tutorial today. This looks like an art piece. If only I could create something this nice. (sigh) Thanks for sharing.
Your card is amazing! I love the look, if only I could do something like this.
Thanks for the great tutorial. Your instructions are so good, I’ll have to give it a try.

Just Amazing, I know I say this alot but to just watch you work is amazing, that flower looks like it is coming right off the card, and the bg stamping is beautiful too!

I am in awe.
Let me just say I sit here with my mouth hanging…your work is amazing.
Wonderful card Michelle! Is True Thyme a retired SU color? If so, would you recommend Always Artichoke as a good alternative?
Thanks again for sharing!
Karen
That is gorgeous!!!! I want to go home and try it now!
Karen asked ”
Is True Thyme a retired SU color? If so, would you recommend Always Artichoke as a good alternative?”
Karen, True Thyme is a retired SU color and I would recommend Always Artichoke as an alternative.

My chin hurts because it smashed into my desk when I saw your amazing card! Truly, my mouth gaped open. It’s so pretty. What amazes me the most, though, is that you used Blush Blossom to stamp the main image. I’m always reaching for my black or brown ink pad, but will now start reaching for other colors. Thank you SO much!
WOW - WOW - WOW! The card is so wonderful!
This is stunning!
Oh, Michelle, this is fabulous!! If I hadn’t read your description, I would have thought you did some tole work, lol. Those flower petals are so dimensional! Love the layout, too, it’s very elegant!!!

The simplicity of your card makes it even more stunning. Each one of your cards is like a canvas all its own. TFS

Thank you, thank you, thank you! As you say, in these days of copics and Prismas, it’s nice to get back to these pens.

Absolutely beautiful! My SU markers have never done anything like that! Your tutorial makes it look so easy, like even I could make it work. But I have a feeling the color choices you make go a long way towards making a beautiful work of art. I love your blog because I always learn something. As an aside, I have never seen this set, it must be kind of old. It is gorgeous. I thought that I had all of the Asian influenced stamp sets, but evidently not. Thanks for sharing as always.
Amazing .. a true piece of art, beautiful!
All I can say is WOW!! Beautiful use of colour. Liked the way you didn’t start with a black outline. I will have to try this.
Wow! I’ve been stalking your work for a few months now. Your art is just stunning! Love the coloring/highlighting tip with the Versamark marker…..never thought of that. I’ve also been debating the SU markers for quite awhile and you’ve gone and given me another tick mark to put in that “pros” side!
Beautiful Michelle
Do you use the line line or the brush point of the markers. I tried doing this on asimilar hero arts stamp but then I couldnt see my markings any more. Still need to practice
Thanks for your tutorials… they are the best
Barbara asked “Do you use the line or the brush point of the markers?”
Barbara, I usually use the brush point, but on occassion I use the line end for outlining.
