Red Bird Lake - Tutorial
This is for the Color Challenge on SCS in which we are challenged to use Real Red, Soft Sky and Blue Bayou. Here is the link if you would like to play along: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352715
Let’s get started with the tutorial.
Supplies:
Stamps: Basic Grey Figgy Pudding Winterland
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Soft Sky and Blue Bayou
Ink: Stampin’ Up Real Red, Soft Sky and Blue Bayou
Accessories: Versamark pad, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Not Quite Navy & Real Red makers, black fine point marker, White Gel pen, Ribbon, Brayer, 1 3/8″ circle punch, post it note, sponges
Stamped bird on Whisper White card stock by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then Real Red ink before stamping.
Made a dot for the birds eye with a very fine tip black marker.
Heat embossed the bird using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.
Brayered Soft Sky ink at the top and bottom of the card stock leaving a bit of white space.
Punched a mask for the moon from the sticky part of a Post it note with a 1 3/8″ punch.
Brayered Blue Bayou ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Soft Sky ink entirely.
Put sticky notes on to mask the sky area. Sponged Blue Bayou ink right at the edge of the Sticky note onto the card stock using a circular motion.
Also sponged some of the Blue Bayou across the water area using a swiping motion from left to right.
Removed all the masks.
Stamped foliage using Blue Bayou Ink.
Wiped ink from embossed bird use an old rag.
Stamped foliage a couple of more times with Soft Sky ink creating the look of a shadow on the water.
Colored the berries one side with a Real Red Marker and the side facing the moon with a white gel pen.
Outlined the bottom of the foliage with a Not Quite Navy Marker.
Outlined the top of the foliage with a White Gel Pen.
Sponge some Blue Bayou ink on the top left corner and bottom right corner of the card stock.
Assembled card and here it is finished measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.
Just one note before I close this post today. The workshop I’m teaching in San Jose, CA in August is filling up pretty fast. Here is a link with more information if you would like to attend: http://flatfishpaperarts.blogspot.com/
Hope your day is filled with lake breezes and red birds.
Until my next post. . . . .. .

This is so soft and serene. That little sweet red bird really pops against the background. You’ve done it again! You’ve made something so beautiful and been kind enough to take the time to teach us the step by step process. Love this one, and thanks so much!

Another beauty Michelle!!! You are so dang talented- you take ordinary stamps and make master pieces out of them!!! Love these colors and I so need to try this brayer technique! Maybe I will join in this challenge. TFS!
Fantastic card!
Beautiful card. Thank you for sharing it with us. I always look forward to seeing what you do next.
gorgeous! esprcially the shadows & berries
Beautiful card! I love the colours.
Your work is so lovely. This looks so peaceful, like the moon us shining through the clouds on a bright evening. I was wondering what kind of paper you use as a base. I’ve tried brayering on some projects and find that the ink moves the nicest on glossy card stock. I was wondering if that’s what you use or if you use whisper white? I come to your blog every day just to see what you’ve done. I just moved and all of my toys are still in boxes, I’ve only made a few cards lately so this is my creative fix. Keep the beauty coming.
Lori
I love your tutorials. I always learn so much from you! Thanks for sharing!

Absolutely GORGEOUS Michelle!
Hi Michelle,
I just love your art work. I have not stamped like that in a long time. Since I am more into mixed media, collage and altered books. But it is a PLEASURE to visit your blog and view your artistic talents. You enrich, delight and inspire many!
Lori asked “I’ve tried brayering on some projects and find that the ink moves the nicest on glossy card stock. I was wondering if that’s what you use or if you use whisper white?”
Lori, I only use Whisper White. No glossy for this girl, lol.
Hi Michelle, another gorgeous card! I HEART the little red bird!
BTW, you inspired me to dust off my versamarker! I’d love for you to peek at what you inspired me to create if you have time!
Another great card. Thank you.
Michelle, beautiful card!!! will have to give the shadow technique a try. still having some difficulty with shadowing part. would love to join you in California in August. hope you can have a class on the east coast sometime.
Blessings!!!!
