Fenced View - Tutorial & Convention Shopping
Happy Sunday Everyone!
I didn’t get a chance to post on Saturday due to the Stamp Away USA, Stamp Convention that was held in Sharonville, OH at the Convention Center. This was my first time attending one of these stamp conventions and man oh man, can a Gal get into lots of trouble at one of these things.
Below is a picture of my purchases and believe me I wanted just about everything, but I set a limit for myself before I went and only took that much in cash with me and left my credit cards at home. That turned out to be a smart move on my part, lol. I think I made wiser choices too.
The day was so enjoyable, Karen Barber let me drag her along on the road trip and I also met a few of you blog readers :) A big hello to Colleen and her friends and to Priscilla.
Today’s tutorial was created with one of the stamps I purchased. By the way this is tutorial number 99. If you would like to see the other 98 tutorials check out the tab at the top of my blog that reads “all my tutorials”.
So let’s get started.
Supplies:
Stamps: Stamp by Judith T-40
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Not Quite Navy, Kiwi Kiss
Ink: Stampin’ Up Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Basic Black & Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Post it Notes, Brayer, Markers, White Gel Pen, Sponges, ribbon, Brads
Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of a 5.5″ x 4.2″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.
Brayered Kiwi Kiss ink at the bottom half of the card stock.
Tore through the sticky part of two post it notes and used them to mask the ground portion of the card stock.
Sponged Baja Breeze ink at the torn edge of the card stock to create a horizon line and to put in a couple of mountain shapes.
Right at the torn edge of the post it notes sponged in Not Quite Navy to darken the horizon line so it would really stand out.
Removed post it note masks and sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock to create a more dramatic sky.
Sponged Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock to create some depth in the foreground.
Stamp my new “Stamp by Judith T-40″ with Basic Black ink.
Colored the rocks with a Going Gray maker.
Colored the tree trunk with a Chocolate Chip marker.
Colored the fence posts with a Close to Cocoa marker.
Colored the tops of the fence posts with a Creamy Caramel marker. Also created a shadows for the tree and fence post with the Creamy Caramel marker.
Colored the flowers in with a white gel pen.
Colored the flower stems with an Old Olive maker.
Added some Close to Cocoa to the center of my tree and fence post shadows.
Sponged Note Quite Navy ink on the edge of my Kiwi Kiss card stock panel.
Assembled card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.
Hope you enjoyed this country scene and will give it a try.
May your day be filled with soft scenery and daisies!
Until my next post. . . . . . . . .
Hugs,
Michelle
Gorgeous card, Michelle!!! I’d say from the looks of your purchases, you had a great time at the convention! I love going to them, too:)
Michelle this is gorgeous. You never cease to amaze me with your talent. I love this image. Congrats on all the new toys.
Wonderful card! I love the stamp used I’ll have to put that one on my wish list.:)
Love, love, love it. What a cool stamp!
Lovely, as all your works.
I have been able to study very much.
Simply stunning!
YOU ARE SOOOO AMAZING!! I come here and everytime my jaw ends on the floor you make distressing and using that brayer soo easy.. I still am scared of the brayer.. I always end up with a blob of a mess..AMAZING is all I can say. Thank you soo much for always sharing your amazing creations
Your posts always put a smile on my face.
Michelle, who makes the clear set on the far left, with the trees & branches? I’m going to Novi this weekend, maybe they will be there and I can score one too! Oh and btw, you’re tutorials are amazing and ever inspiring! I’m finally trying one day!
Michelle, Love this card. Wish I could have gone, bet it was fun! Keep the tutorials coming.
Great tutorial and card. So glad to see the new colors in action!
Michelle–glad you made it to Stampaway! I took my 9-year-old niece on Friday night, and we had a blast! The Friday preview party had a pajama party theme, and we dressed in our jammies and fuzzy slippers–that didn’t slow down our shopping, though! Thanks for another great tutorial.
Great tutorial. thanks for outlining it so well and step by step.
I was led here because of another comment on the scs website - I am ending up
with hard lines when I do brayering say of blues, yellows, etc. They don’t blend the way yours do.
Any specific hints on that? SCS suggested using more ink on brayer or glossy cardstock. i’ve also used ww.
thanks michelle! Sorry I missed you in San Jose. Sacramento is just a bit to far away.
Hi Michelle. Good thinking about bringing limited funds to the Stamp convention! Aren’t they fun? I love how you put brads on the ribbon on your card today! Another beauty! Have a great day.
You are so restrained! What temptation…you are so lucky to be able to go to these shows!
I love how your scene just grows with each picture. When I think you must be finished, there’s another step to make it look even better. Lovely work, thanks for sharing it with us!
Michelle, another fabulous card! You are definitely an artist!! When you sponge…do you use a dry sponge or a damp sponge. I never get the depth of color you do when I sponge. (I haven’t even tried the brayer yet!! LOL!)
Kim asked “do you use a dry sponge or a damp sponge?”
Kim, I use a dry sponge.
Dawn asked “I am ending up
with hard lines when I do brayering say of blues, yellows, etc. They don’t blend the way yours do. Any specific hints on that?”
Dawn, check out the frequently asked question page at the top of my blog.
I like the image you used and your color combo. Beautiful card Michelle!
Good thinking - No credit cards.
what great stuff you got, Im sure we will be seeing more of them.
This card is fabulous, love this stamp.
Kathy asked “who makes the clear set on the far left, with the trees & branches?”
Kathy, that set is from Impression Obsession “CL168 Branches of a Tree”. Have fun!
This is stunning… and you are one smart cookie… leaving those credit cards at home… I am sure you could have done lots and lots of damage… but all in all you made beautiful choices and I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the sets all inked up…
Debbie
This is spectacular like all your tutorials. I love the Country Road stamp, where can we buy that one? I scearched Judith T and found nothing, Thank You for sharing your talent.
How in the world did you get away with only enough Stuff to fit the photo??? I would have busted the bank and had to have hired a Uhaul truck to get my stuff home. I’m terrible! I too am lusting after the tree stamp and will search the net. Thanks for your quick responses to our questions, they are much appreciated.
I was in Cincinnati this weekend, too. Wish I had seen you. I did tell some people about your blog. This card is one of my favorites. Love that fence, and really appreciate knowing how to color it. I hope I can get to your class in Dayton. I live in Indianapolis. Any chance you will be here? Thanks for the tutorials.
Michelle, I am impressed as always with your beautiful creations and masterful hand with the brayer. For this card, did you start the brayer in the middle and work your way out or did you just go from one side to the other. It seems to be darker and wider in the middle both with the blue sky and the green ground.
Any plans on coming to Hawaii?
Have great day and I look forward to your next creation.
Michelle, you did good. How smart to leave credit cards at home, I just can’t do that and always end up wishing I had.ha. I have several stamps by Judith, but this must be new I love it. Glad you and Karen had a blast. Thanks for the tutorial.
Evelynn
We have a convention in town the end of August and are waiting to see all the products.
Good idea to take a set amount of money and leave the credit cards at home. I’ll have to think about it.
Another great creation. I thought I recognized that stamp as a Judith stamp. You are much more restrained than I am. I do take the credit card. OUCH!
heavy sigh - how beautiful - thank you so much for sharing your talents …. now I feel I need those new su colors!
Sandra
Hi Michelle~
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial and for featuring a stamp from one of my favorite makers: Stamps by Judith! Love how you used and colored the stamp image.
Oooooh…I would **LOVE** to be in your class held at Marco’s Paper and fulfill two of my dreams at once: taking a class from you and spending hours browsing through Marco’s stock!! Unfortunately, Dayton is a little too far from California!
Now, San Jose, I could do…and I have a little while to plan it. We’ll see!
Next time I go *any* place where I’m inclined to spend money, I’m going to follow your example: Set a $$ limit, take only enough cash, leave debit/credit cards at home! See? You’re just inspiring on all fronts!
hugs,
~jeanie.
Leanne asked “did you start the brayer in the middle and work your way out or did you just go from one side to the other?”
Leanne, I worked the sky from the top of the card stock down. and the ground area from the bottom up. The pictures I took show the brayer sitting in the direction in which I used it.
Sandra asked “I love the Country Road stamp, where can we buy that one? I scearched Judith T and found nothing?”
Sorry Sandra, Try Searching “Stamps by Judith” the item number is “T-40″.
Love it! Thanks so much for all your tutorials….I think I have viewed them all. I now own a brayer mostly because of your inspiration!!!! This card is another beauty.
WOW, gorgeous scene Michelle. Love it. ~Debie
I have to do the same thing when going to conventions, I find myself just purchasing over my budget if I don’t take cash. Neat stamp and so love the scene you have made with it, GREAT job!
Michelle this is just stunning and probably my favourite card that you’ve shown us since starting your blog. I love the image and the colours. It’s going to be a long wait until we get the new In-Colors in Australia! Thanks for sharing.
Really like this card. You make all your cards with materials that seem so ‘user friendly’. I enjoy your style. Wish you were closer so I could take one of your classes.
Michelle this is another beautiful creation. I subscribe to your blog and get your daily updates but can’t leave a comment from that. So I’ve added you to my blog roll so that I can visit and leave comments. Your work is so amazing - I sure wish you were close enough to teach some classes in Texas. I love the stamp in this one - off to check out Judith’s web site…Thanks for sharing your incredible talent with us all!
Wow - just incredible!!! I learn so much from you as you make it seem so approachable and doable. I just need to get over my fear of messing up my brayer. LOL Are the brayers easily cleaned after they’re inked up? how do you clean them?
You just ROCK!! Conventions can be wallet draining, but they are so much fun! Congrats on 9!9 Tutorials…can’t wait for 100! Keep up the superb work
Q asked “Are the brayers easily cleaned after they’re inked up? how do you clean them?”
They are very easy to clean. They do get stained though. My brayer use to be tan in color and it is now stained black from use.
I spray stamp cleaner on a stampin scrub pad and roll my brayer on the wet side and then roll it on the dry side. I also roll it on scrap paper to be sure that it is clean.
It’s a tool, use it!
I really like your new stamp and love what you did with it. I was trying to get a better look at your loot. We have the Heirloom Novi stamp show coming next weekend and wanted to get a sneak peak of what you thought were cool things. I usually take the same tactic you do at the shows — go with a specific budget. But something happened last year and I left with many, Many Copic markers. That is never in anyone’s budget! But I use them all the time. I never got the hang of my SU markers, but the Copics for some reason I am able to handle. Another great tutorial and I will look for that Stamps by Judith stamp. I really like it.
Such a wonderful card! I think I am going to like these In Colors, too, now that I’ve seen what you are doing with them! And I spied the IO coffee set that I have in my stash. Can’t wait to see what you might do with that one, to give me some more inspiration!
Thanks as always for all your marvelous tutorials. You are my hero…..
i need to say that i’m at the hospital right now recovering from a cesarean 5 hours ago, but managed to grab the laptop from my husband to check out the blog today!
always inspiring, can’t wait to try it out!
You desereve a gold star for limiting your purchases at the convention.
Love the card.
Do you reuse many of your stamps?
Congrats to Colleen and her newborn.
Laurie asked “Do you reuse many of your stamps?”
Laurie, sure I do!
I’m a kid in school again. I love the way you do your tutorials. I am having so much fun seeing your work and trying my best to be inspired. Thank you!
So beautiful! I love every one of your cards. Thanks so much for all the tutorials and congrats on reaching 99! Wow, that is impressive.
What a lovely card! I can hardly wait to see #100. I really appreciate your answers to the questions that others ask. It helps a great deal.
Michelle this is awesome. Love that you used the new colors. I love your brayered scenery and would love to learn how. If you ever do a workshop in Florida I would love to come and learn some of your secrets. I love checking your blog daily for inspiration and a great tutorial. Thanks for all you do
Debi Pippin
Can I ask…do you clean off your brayer each time? If so, with what?
Michelle,
I produced many cards while we were away. DH had a nap and I “carded”
Wow that’s some self restraint to leave the CC’s at home. Way to go! I’ve just returned home from holidays and thanks to your tutorials (which I saved into a word file and took with me
Love this tutorial as well. It’s so beautiful. You have an extra-ordinary talent with that brayer. Although, having practiced a lot I have improved and am slowly getting the hang of it. So thanks so much for sharing such awesome tutorial details with us so we can play along!
Beth Greco
Jules asked “do you clean off your brayer each time?”
Jules, I clean my brayer off only if I am going to a lighter color or a different color family, such as going from red to blue. I don’t if I’m going from light blue to a darker blue.
I use a stampin scrub to clean my brayer. I spray one side of the scrub pad with stamp cleaner roll the brayer on it then dry it by rolling it on the dry side.
I then roll it on scrap paper to make sure it is clean. Watch out when you go from a dark color to yellow. You really have to clean that brayer well.
Hope this helps
