Monochromatic Maple Tree - Tutorial #112
Woohoo! New Innovative Stamp Creations Stamp Sheets are out! Here is the link: http://www.innovativestampcreations.com/ischomepage.html
Today I used the new Innovative Stamp Creations stamp sheet “Maple Tree Paintings” and combined the images with today’s SCS Monochromatic Challenge CC182. I decided to go for an old photo or pen and ink drawing look by using Greys and was quite happy with the way it turned out. Who knew Grey could be so interesting?
Let’s get started.
Supplies:
Stamps: Innovative Stamp Creations “Maple Tree Paintings”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Going Grey, Black
Ink: Adirondack Black, Pebble & Lake Mist
Accessories: Aqua Painter, White Gel Pen, Sponge, Photo Corner Punch, Black marker, Brayer
Stamped Maple Tree with Pitch Black ink on a 4″ x 4.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.
Brayered Lake Mist ink at the top of the card stock.
Squeezed my Pebble stamp pad so it would make a puddle of ink on the lid and used the puddle to water color the leaves of tree with an Aqua Painter.
Sponged in a hill with Pebble ink.
Sponged Black ink at the bottom of the card stock, but did not cover the Pebble ink entirely.
Watercolored some Black ink on the right side of the tree leaves.
Sponged some Pebble ink at the top of the card stock to make the sky a bit more interesting.
Darkened some of the tree branches on the Right side of the tree with a Black marker.
Made White Dots on the Left side of the trees leaves to create highlights and some dashes on the hill to indicate grasses.
Stamped the birds with Pitch Black ink.
Sponged Black ink on all the edges of the main image panel.
Assembled card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 5.5″.
This was a fun and challenging project. Why don’t you give a Monochromatic card a try today? Here is a link to the SCS challenge: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378798

This is gorgeous Michelle!! Love all your work but some pieces really “pop” for me and this happens to be one of those time!! Awesome!! TFS
I think this is my favorite of yours so far, I don’t know if it is the monocromatic or what but it really touches me, just Beautiful!
Michelle, this is an incredibly artistic card. It speaks to the viewer. It would be adaptable for any purpose, but I can see it as a perfect “sympathy” or “thinking of you” card.
Thanks again for sharing your time, talent, and inspiration.

Oh, Michelle! This is so beautiful!! And…happy late b-day! Hope you had a great one!!
Okay, I’m confused………….. How on earth did you watercolor the leaves without getting a bunch of the black tree running into your Pebble leaf color? I stamped an image with Adirondack black one time, and tried to watercolor it, and the whole thing smeared and ran and I had to trash it. Help??
I like your Monochromatic card! Who new gray could look so good? WOW!
Holly asked “How on earth did you watercolor the leaves without getting a bunch of the black tree running into your Pebble leaf color?”
Holly, I don’t let my brush get to wet and use a dabbing motion, instead of brush strokes.
