Autumn Day - Tutorial #120

Published by zindorf at 5:29 am under Tutorials

dsc06019.JPG

I’m packing things up for my beginner brayer workshops in Austin, Texas this weekend on September 20 & 21.  If you would like join me there are a few spots available, no prior brayer experience necessary and you will leave the workshop feeling you have mastered this mystery tool.   If interested, please contact Lisa Itatani to sign up at litatani@pacbell.net or http://flatfishpaperarts.blogspot.com/

I’ve never been to Texas before and I’m very excited to have this opportunity to visit this great state.  I even get to meet a few of my fellow Split Coast Stamper Dirty Dozen Alumi that have signed up for my workshops, way kewl!

Anyhow, between packing things up for my trip I managed to get this card tutorial completed for your viewing and hopefully doing pleasure.  :)

Let’s get started. . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Inkadinkado “Fall Season”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Soft Sky, Not Quite Navy, Old Olive
Ink: Stampin’ Up Pumpkin Pie, Kiwi Kiss, Always Artichoke, Baja Breeze, Old Olive & Not Quite Navy
Accessories: Versamark pad, fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, Curvy Cutter & glass mat, Sponges, Brayer, Stampin’ Up markers Really Rust & Black, copper brads

dsc06023.JPG

Stamped Leaves by first loading stamp with Versamark and then with Pumpkin Pie ink before stamping.

dsc05999.JPG

Heat embossed the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06000.JPG

Stamped Tree by first loading the stamp with Versamark, then Old Olive ink, then I colored the leaves on the stamp with a Really Rust marker and the trunk on the stamp with a Black marker before stamping.

Note: It helps to huff your breath on the stamp before stamping to moisten all the ink a bit when coloring the stamp in with markers.  :)

Heat embossed the tree image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06001.JPG

Tore a post it note along the sticky edge and used it to mask the sky area of the card stock.  Brayered on Kiwi Kiss ink in the unmasked area.

dsc06002.JPG

Brayered Always Artichoke ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc06003.JPG

With the post it note mask still in place, stamped leaves image two more times, but this time stamped them using Always Artichoke ink only.

dsc06004.JPG

Took post it note off.

dsc06005.JPG

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at top of the card stock.

dsc06006.JPG

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the very top of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

dsc06007.JPG

Stamped Leaf flourish stamp with Baja Breeze in the sky area.

dsc06008.JPG

Now for a little Curvy Cutter lesson.  :)

Taped my main image panel down on a glass mat.

dsc06009.JPG

Put my Curvy Cutter over the card stock and determined where I wanted my cut to be.

The cutter comes with this template so you can see exactly where your cut will be when you line up your cutter tip.

dsc06010.JPG

Removed the inside template without moving my cutter and made my cut by moving my cutter around the track on the Curvy Cutter.

dsc06011.JPG

Sponged the edge of the card stock with Not Quite Navy ink.

dsc06013.JPG

Stamped part of the leaf flourish stamp around the edge of a Soft Sky card stock panel using Not Quite Navy ink.

dsc06014.JPG

Sponged Not Quite Navy around the edge of the panel.

dsc06015.JPG

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink on the corners of a 4 5/8″ square Not Quite Navy Panel.

dsc06016.JPG

Assembled card and here it is measuring 5.5″ x 5.5″.

dsc06019.JPG

Hope this tutorial has inspired you to MAKE A SCENE today.

May your day be filled with all that your heart desires.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Wow!!!! I don’t even know what to say! You are incredible with that brayer! I have tried your brayer technique once and was very pleased, but it wasn’t as simple as you picture it to be on your tutorials! I love coming to your blog every morning and seeing what you have created!

Thank you so much for sharing all that you do! You are very talented!

Michelle said “I have tried your brayer technique once and was very pleased, but it wasn’t as simple as you picture it to be on your tutorials!”

Michelle, once you learn the technique of brayering it is very, very simple. :)

    Dear Michelle
I always enjoy myself on the wonderful works of art you here present and show step by step. Will it try gladly and am curious how the card comes out. I voted for an example of the materials you, im ordered from Germany. Unfortunately, not all colors of the inkpad to be extradited. Thus missing me especially in the blue color other sounds. A great pity that in Europe it is difficult to Stampin’UP things to come.

Do keep it and I wish you a lot of fun in Texas.

    Greetings from Switzerland

I bought this stamp set only last saturday at a craft fair. I love it. You made another great card with it. Thanks again for showing your great work. Have fun in Texas

    Hi Michelle,

Another beautiful card and yes brayering is an artform which I myself am trying to get to grios with. I also wish I could come to your weekend class but living in Australia is a bit of a way to travel. I am sure all your trainees will love it. All the best.

Oh my, beautiful card Michelle! I like how you cut this one out in a circle. It adds a lot to it. Have fun in Texas…wish I could come!

  7. Besseyon 17 Sep 2008 at 7:40 am

Love this card, so Maine. Have a fun time in Texas, only wish it could be the Northeast you were going to. Maybe someday we will get our chance to learn the technique of using the brayer from you. Keep the cards and tutorials coming. Have a safe trip and will be waiting for your new creations.

I just love what you do with a brayer, you turn every stamp into a form of art, and this is card is no exception.

When you got to the part in your tutorial where you cut the image into a circle I was screaming! But it turned out beautiful……..of course, what else would it be? Sometimes I feel like I put so much work into a piece to get it to look just right that I shy away from cutting any part of it off; but that’s changing TODAY. Michelle, I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to not to be able to make your work shop. We’ll be out of town as we volunteered to help out with the Red Cross distribution center in Houston. I can’t believe this; you’ll be a 40 minute drive from where we live and I’m going to miss your class! Well, I know you’ll have a blast while you’re here. If time permits, have the girls take you down on 6th street for some live music and night life. You must go see Barton Springs if nothing else. The Hill Country is beautiful but I don’t know that you’ll have enough time to enjoy it. So………you’ll just have to make another trip here!

    Michelle,

Thank you for another gorgeous card and wonderful tutorial. Any chance you’d ever “head south” for a brayer workshop? I’m sure there are lots of folks in SC, NC, or GA that would love to attend. WHile your tutorials are amazing, I know I learn best with hands-on training.

Thanks again. Have a safe and wonderful trip.

Love this set, that tree is so neat. Beautiful card. Michelle I am bummed out that I can’t come to your workshop this weekend I would love to learn how to use that darn brayer, but unfortunately I am getting ready to drill wheat while its dry enough, can’t believe I am saying that it is usually dry here. Any way have a safe trip and can’t wait until your tutorials continue………

I wish I lived closer to Austin! Another beautiful card. Looking at your tutorials each day they come out is just a joy Michelle. You are so talented!

  14. johannaon 17 Sep 2008 at 10:20 am

    Just a beautifull cart.
I’m just wondering, why are you do first loading stamp with Versamark and then with Pumpkin Pie ink (ore some else) before stamping???
    thank you for showing.
    Johanna

  15. zindorfon 17 Sep 2008 at 10:45 am

Johanna asked “why are you do first loading stamp with Versamark and then with Pumpkin Pie ink (ore some else) before stamping???”
Johanna, I load the stamp first with Versamark and then load it with ink to give the embossing powder something to stick to. :)

I can’t believe you can crank out a tutorial in the middle of packing! You are amazing in every way. Hope you have fun in Texas. Wish I could come to a class. But, not enough funds yet to get there. I have this set and I’m going to finally get brave and try out my brayer I bought a month ago. You do make it looks so easy! Great tutorial, hope you keep them coming, for us who can only dream of taking one of your classes.

Stunning card Michelle. This is just drop-dead gorgeous! I so wish I could come to Texas for your workshop, but alas, I think DH would object so I’ll just have to wait til you come to DC area. Have a great trip! Enjoy Austin, it’s a wonderful city!

  22. Linda V.on 17 Sep 2008 at 11:43 am

Michelle: I look forward to visiting your website every day. I’m always wondering what magnificant piece of art you’ll be sharing with us. You are so good at choosing your colors. I’ve been stamping for years and have tried many techniques, but I just love your design style. I look forward to playing with my brayer, inks and embossing powders again. Have a safe trip to Texas!

  23. Laurie Helgasonon 17 Sep 2008 at 12:13 pm

I have decided the only way to learn how to duplicate your brayering technique is to try to figure out the steps in making your card before scrolling down to your tutorials. Let’s just say, I will need more practice.

    Love your card.

  24. Cindy H.on 17 Sep 2008 at 12:17 pm

This is really gorgeous, Michelle!! Love the stamps (I have them, too:)), the colors and your design. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Wow girl…you rock, yet again!! I need to get this set, I LOVE the fall. One of these days I WILL get to your class. Unfortunately, being handicapped long distance driving is sometimes hard on the joints. But, meeting and taking a class with you in one of my goals!!!
    Thanks again for the inspiration!

  28. Kelleyon 17 Sep 2008 at 3:02 pm

Once again, today’s card took my breath away. I just can’t tell you how beautiful I think your cards are or how talented you are. I only wish I had half your talent.

  29. Conniecrafteron 17 Sep 2008 at 3:57 pm

Beautiful fall scene, just love this stamp set and what you have done with it!

  30. Sharon in NEon 17 Sep 2008 at 4:47 pm

Michelle!!! I love it!!!! I absolutely love it!!! I will have to get that stamp set and TRY to duplicate it. (That is a frustrating process, but it does teach me to appreciate your talents even more!)

  31. Janineon 17 Sep 2008 at 4:50 pm

I so love today’s card. Every time you turn out beautiful creations but the shape and the colours today are really wonderful. I too would love to do a workshop with you but it is too far to come from the UK just now.

  32. Janeton 17 Sep 2008 at 5:23 pm

Fantastic card today! I love the Autumn colors in this one. Thanks for sharing!

  33. Eileen Mon 17 Sep 2008 at 6:05 pm

Another gorgeous creation! You are such an inspiration.
One question- where do you get those giant post-it notes? I have looked, mostly at target, and have not seen any that big. any suggestions?
And I have to echo what Bernice said above. We need you to come to Minneapolis/St Paul. I have plenty of room for you to stay, if that would help!
    Have fun in Texas!

  34. Marqaisaon 17 Sep 2008 at 10:05 pm
