Katzelkraft Bird in Water - Tutorial #152 And New Blog Candy!

Published by zindorf at 9:59 am under Tutorials

Well hello there everyone!  I’ve been away tooooo long from my stamping room.  A lot has been going on with holiday preparation.

For the Thanksgiving Holiday my small family gets together at our house for the feast.  I still have half of the feast in the frig that needs eaten.  (Just slap it on my thighs, that’s where it is going anyway, lol)    We are not fancy people, this is my table setting for the occasion.  :)

dsc06906.JPG  dsc06908.JPG

I have to show you the two beast that were underfoot in the kitchen the whole day.  These two both weigh over 100 lbs each.  Abby the Lab and Lucas the German Short Haired Pointer/Great Dane mix.  Both of these babies came from a local shelter after our beloved German Shepherd passed about 5 years ago.   I encourage everyone to adopt their pets and spay and neuter them.  :)  Sorry, had to throw that in there, it’s too important.

    dsc06914.JPG  dsc06916.JPG

Yesterday was spent, CHRISTMAS SHOPPING!!!!!  After Shopping we started putting up the Christmas lights on the outside of the house.  This is the progress we made before dark.  I then completely passed out on the couch, lol.  I hope those who celebrate Thanksgiving had one filled with the love and Joy of Family and Friends.

You are crazy good ! I have no idea how to do the things you do with a brayer. Do you ever make it to Minnesota?

  7. Verna Thompsonon 29 Nov 2008 at 10:30 am

Since finding your blog, many hours have been spent trying your tutorials, now my friends are asking,”how do you do that. I’m a bird lover and watcher so enjoy the bird cards along with all the others. We lost our big beautiful chocolate lab last year and we still miss him. One day the right dog will come along to fill our void, our shelters have a big problem with parvo so don’t want to go there. Thanks for all the well spent hours.

  8. Deb Austillon 29 Nov 2008 at 10:33 am

Thank you for your inspiration! I had no idea of the things you could accomplish with a brayer. Loved the pictures on your blog. (I have three dogs - two labs & a cocker spaniel). Please include me in your blog candy drawing.

  9. Sheenaon 29 Nov 2008 at 10:34 am

You are so talented. I did your brayered sky technique for a retirement card for a co-worker and he was very moved by the card. Thank you for giving all of us so much inspiration. And thanks for the spay/neutering plug! People really need to learn to be more responsible with their beloved animal family members.

    Michelle,
It appears you had a delightful Thanksgiving with family and “friends”. Thanks for the reminder to all to spary and neuter your pets. It’s so important. In Colorado Springs we are now having to license cats to help fund the feral cat problem. Sad…but true. Enough of that.
Birds are the beginning of Spring. When you hear them first sing…it’s magic to your ears. Thanks for the super-duper blog candy this week. You are certainly a dear.
    Happy week!

You continue to amaze me with your talent! Your cards are gorgeous. Murphy, my 145 lab mix says “rowlf” to your two sweeties wish we could get together and play while our mom’s play! He is laying by me as I look at your card and tutorial. At least that is what I think he is thinking. He did look up when I showed him the photos. We had just taken a big walk admiring all the birds around us. This looks like a great sheet of bird stamps! Thanks for a chance to win a set. Happy holidays!

Such a hectic time of year and so little time to sit down and just stamp. Love this card and actually all of your work. I have been experimenting with your techniques and am pleased with some of the results but haven’t quite reached your level.
Now about the canines….my daughter has three hounds and they are her ‘children’ or rather my ‘grandchildren’. One came from a shelter, one wandered in off of an Indian reservation in New Mexico and the other was a little fur ball for Christmas 16 years ago. They are quite the trio with the most distinct and sometimes hilarious personalities. Anyway, thank you for the opportunity to win some blog candy!!

    Hi Michelle,
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had ours back in October up in Canada. I received your two cards when I came back from vacation on Monday. The colors on your cards are always so vivid and I thought it was because of the camera settings, but in real life they are amazingly rich in color! The card you have today is very beautiful! I will have to try the brayer technique once I finish writing my exam on Tuesday. =] Cheers!

Your dogs are beautiful (we have 2 cats, 1 from the pound and both spayed). I’m excited to see what new cards you come up with but I hope you take time to have fun with family and friends at Christmas.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the card and the pups! I have been in companion animal rescue for over 15 years and often foster these wonderful animals (we focus on adoptable animals that get put on the euthanasia list due to lack of shelter space). We have several furry children of our own and they are all shelter dogs (www.petfinder.com) . The spay/neuter mention makes me love this website even more. I like birds about as much as dogs so I hope I have a decent chance at winning those stamps!

  137. MSBetsyZon 29 Nov 2008 at 1:48 pm

OMG, where to start! Well, I guess with the most important, lol…I got such a start looking at your german short hair! It’s like looking at a picture of my childhood dog Auggie! Yours may be a wee bit beefier, but otherwise they’re identical! He was the equivalent of a pound puppy, too…somebody boarded him at the vet where my bro worked and then never came back.

The bird sheet is awesome! I am a bird addict, I think…my eye is always drawn to them…your card certainly shows them off well! I love the way you capture light with your brayers…almost spooky, lol!

Looks like you had a wonderful holiday, Michelle…I was hoping you would!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  141. Phyllison 29 Nov 2008 at 1:57 pm

Yes, please enter me in the blog candy contest. What a terrific prize! You are too generous. I’m a bit later than usual sending you a comment as I’ve been outside putting up the lights and dragging stuff down from the attic and into the house. You should see my living room! Well, maybe not, you’d never come back. This year I made myself a promise to go through all the Christmas stuff and sort out what I don’t want, what is broken, and what I want to keep. I’ve got such a variety of stuff and few things match but that’s the way I like it. There were only 4 of us this year at Mom’s for Thanksgiving but at least we were together and had a roof and plenty to eat. Michelle, your two 100 lb babies are adorable. I am a critter lover and these two are precious. Right now we have two indoor kitties, 3 outdoor kitties, two fox that come visiting every night, a herd of deer that range from 8 to 23, racoons that really are not welcome but they keep coming and a flock of 8 tom turkeys and 25 hens. Yes, we feed them all! When I get my digital back from being repaired, I’ll share some if you’d like. I’m sorry, I haven’t mentioned how much I love your card and to thank you for doing the tutorial. Some folks express their holiday feeling with the word “stressful”; the word that best describes how I feel during the holidays is energized. I don’t shop for Christmas, we make almost everything we give. This year the only thing I did purchase was a Kourik (might have the spelling wrong) one cup coffee maker for Mom. I broke her other one at Thanksgiving. DRATTTTT! I know this comment is turning into a book but I want to tell you that I so admire the prize I won a few months back and have it mounted on my studio wall. It inspired me to grab up some dollar frames at a yard sale and I made two of the most beautiful scenes for the holidays. I gave one to my Mom and one to my Sister so they could display them during the holidays. They just think I’m soooo talented! I learned it all from you! Well, I’ll close for now before this turns into an edition.

So glad to hear your Thanksgiving was nice. You are a brave woman to go shopping on Black Friday. I didn’t even stick a toe out the door. I spent the day taking down Fall decorations and putting away Thanksgiving things. I did put on a Christmas tablecloth and topper and I will be going through our holiday decorations to decide what to use and what to donate. How do we collect so many things? Of course, stamps do not fix in that category! Again, you have created a beautiful piece of art. I am so grateful that you share your talent with us and how far I am coming along by trying to follow your wonderful Tutorials. I am light ages away from mastering the brayer but I do wield a wicked sponge because of you! Thanks you for your inspiration and willingness to share your talent with us.

Oh my….your dog on the left looks just like my dog Buford who past away a few years ago. I still miss him but he was 103 lbs and always at my side for 13 years. We have a small dog now and we enjoy him but still miss our Buford. I feed the birds, water the birds, paint birds, and stamp birds soooooo I absolutely am drooling over the blog candy. :D I may pass out if I win. Looks like a good one. I thought your table settings and decorated house was beautiful. You do so many things well. Happy Holidays !!! Becky

I love the way you teach us about how to add depth to our cards. Thanks for all the time you give us. And I’d love to win the bird stamps. Birds have always been a favorite of ours and our neighbor is a birder and an artist with birds as a focus. Had to do a “happy birdie” card for him!

What a beautiful card and thank you for the opportunity at some great blog candy. You are very generous. Love your two precious dogs. We had to put our precious Abby, a golden retriever, to sleep last year. She was 15 1/2 yrs old. Still have the 5 wonderful cats we have adopted. Seems the boys continue to come home with strays that no one wants. I will always take them and give them all my love and yes each and every one is neutered or spayed.

    Hi, Michelle:

This card is another amazing one. Thanks so much for sharing the site for this company! I LOVE the vintage stamps - just have to figure out the Euro difference now! I would love to win your blog candy and thanks so much for offering this opportunity. And thanks for the info on your beautiful dogs - shelter pets are the absolute best! We have a 10-year-old brother/sister cat duo and a 10-year-old beautiful golden retriever mix (she is SOOOO girly - but her sweet abandoned mom, they said, must have had five suitors because her nine pups were in a distinct range of looks from german shepherd to chow to shar pei to goldens! Ours was the only one to look like mom!). They are our joy, constant companions and our entertainment!

Michelle, I just love your adorable ‘Beasts’ and I am so glad you adopted them! We adopted the joy of our lives, Ollie, who is a 6 year old part lab part German Shepard from the SPCA two years ago and we love her to death. I do fund raisers for the local animal shelter and I can vouch for the importance of adopting these homeless friends and keeping your pets spayed and nutured. Thank you for mentioning that on your very well-read blog. I love your card as well, don’t want to forget that!

It was in the wild and now we are graced with its loving presence every day. My mom lives across the highway and the cat visits us both. Happy to share.

The last blog candy you gave away on my birthday - I thought what a nice birthday present that would be! Well, the generator didn’t pick my name. Now you are giving away another set of stamps on my husband’s birthday. If you draw my name, I promise I will let him borrow them from time to time. LOL This is a beautiful card! I visit your blog every day to see if you have posted another gorgeous card so you have become part of my daily routine now. Hope your Thanksgiving was fun - we don’t have dogs at our house but all of our kitties have come from the pound or were strays that wandered into our yard, starving half to death. Thanks for your generosity, Michelle.

Blog Candy here I come! Sure hope I win this one - I love bird stamps and these are incredible.

I picked up a set on eBay after seeing the millions of amazing ways Michelle has used it in her beautiful cards!

Thank you for all the work you do in sharing your ideas. I love every card you make and your blog is my favourite. (Not just buttering you up, I really do mean it just like all the other fans). I would love to win these stamps. I doubt they will get to the Australian shops, so it will mean more internet spending, and then I have to make the order up to an amount that’s worthwhile :-) Of course, every purchase turns into something bigger than intended. Love using bird stamps, and these look especially good.

Fingers crossed for the candy, but either way I LOVE your tutorials and look forward to them everytime I open my email.

FABULOUS card as always, and wonderful blog candy! Please enter me. You are a lot further on with the decorating than we are! It looks lovely.
I second your comment on the speying and neutering of pets- my daughter works for a vet that does SPCA work, and some of the abdandoned and feral animals are in a desparate state, especially at this time of year. Always choose a pet from a shelter, never a pet store!
Thanks for the chance at a rant, Michelle, and for the tutorial!

I love your blog. I am an old stamper (62) been stampin for years I have a 10 year old NEW brayer and plan to use early in 2009! I adopted a 5 year old boy, 13 years ago! He is now an 18 year old senior. I plan to create his announcements and all the other stuff. About 2 years ago my arms felt the need for another baby, so I adopted a 8 month old shorkie (shihtzu and yorkie) He is a big boy, weighing in at 5.5 pounds. He is the love of our lives. I am sure he keeps me off the psy. couch. Use that money for stamps! This is my first time to reply and of course I want to enter to win those bird stamps, they are amazing. I also want to THANK YOU for your amazing site. I really admire all the things you do.

  457. Dawnon 01 Dec 2008 at 3:33 pm

Love the card. It’s my first visit to your site and can’t wait to try some of your techniques. I do have one question…how do you adhere the red rubber stamps to the clear block? Do they stick by themselves? I was told I had to mount them on mounting foam so they would adhere to the clear acrylic block, but from what I can see I don’t see foam on your stamps. Anyway love your techniques…great way to add dimension to stamped images. And, yes, I would love to be entered in the blog candy giveaway. Dawn

Count me in for the blog candy! The birds are adorable. WOW you are ambitious! I don’t have any lights up yet…..my goal for this next weekend. I love your dogs!!! They are adorable. I had a Golden Lab Mix we got from the pound and she was always under foot but we loved her. We had to put her down a couple of months ago. She was a sweetie. Thanks again for your inspiration, Michelle!

Love your “kids”. ALL of ours have been adoped from the shelter. Our “Kids” consist of 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 large parrots; all have been fixed except the birds (lol). Please enter me in your “Blog Candy give away”, I love this stamp (not to mention all your other stamps) and with your guidance there is nothing I could not do!! Phew, got a little carried away! There really are no words to express the beauty of this card, can’t wait to try it with another subject stamp (have no bird stamps).
