Peaceful Flight – Tutorial #157

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!  2009 wow!  Wasn’t it just yesterday we were worried about Y2K?

The older I get the faster time flies by. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well December for me was a month of reflection, relaxation and family.  But I’m back to blogging.   My schedule for posting is going to be different.  I probably won’t be able to post before I leave for work in the morning.  I’ve started an exercise program and if I don’t hop right out of bed in the morning and throw on the gym shoes, exercise just isn’t going to happen that day.  So, that being said, 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. exercise, 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. stamping, get ready for work, commute to work, work from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., arrive home around 5:30, edit my photos and post to the blog.   Hmmm, I need more hours in the day, lol.  I guess my husband will have to do the shopping and house cleaning, yikes!

Any how, I will post as often as I can. I do want to hear from you, my readers.  Let me know if you are using the tutorials, e-mail me a link to your projects.  I love looking at them.  As you can tell I don’t have a lot of time to browse the stamping galleries, so comments and links sent to me are a blessing and they encourage me to keep on keeping on, grin.

Yak, yak, yak, yak, yak. . . . . . . . let’s get started with the tutorial already!

Stamps: Cape Arago Rubber Stamps,
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Blue Bayou
Ink: Stampin’ Up Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Blue Bayou & Adirondack Pitch Black
Accessories: 1 3/8″ Circle Punch, Brayer, Post it notes, White & Gold Gel Pens, Sponge

Punched a 1 3/8″ circle from the sticky part of a post it note and used it as a mask for the moon.  I stuck in on a 3.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink all over the card stock.

Removed the post it note mask and brayered a bit more Baja Breeze ink over the card stock.  This tones down the brightness of the moon a bit.

Masked the top 2/3rds of the card stock with a large post it note.

Turned project upside down and sponged Blue Bayou ink right at the post it note edge.  Creating the horizon line here.

Sponged more Blue Bayou ink at the right side of the card stock.  See the “X” on the post it note.  That is where the moon is.  So the water needs to stay lighter on the side with the moon.  Clear as mud?

Sponged a bit of Not Quite Navy ink at the right side, not covering the Blue Bayou ink entirely.

Removed post it note and flipped project right side up.

Sponged Blue Bayou ink at the left side of the card stock sky area.

Added Not Quite Navy ink to the left top corner.

Stamped the bird with Pitch Black ink.

Colored in the light areas of the bird with a White Gel Pen.

Colored the feet and beak with a Gold Gel Pen.

Added a few dashes in the water with a White Gel pen.

Put the card together with a few panels of card stock and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I was a bit rusty from not stamping in December so yesterday I took a look at the New Year’s Eve challenges on and here is what I created for two of the challenges.

Stamps used:  Stampendous “Winter Trees”

Stamps used:  Paper Trey Ink “Pond Life”

Well I hope you enjoyed the tutorial today and it encouraged you in some fashion to get out those stamps and use them.

May your day and new year be beyond belief spectacular!

Until my next post. . . . . . . .. . . . . . . .

  1. Oh, I am so glad that you are back….I was a wreck while you were on hiatus!!!! I love everything about your blog. the tutorials are great….would be nice to see one ‘live’ like on Youtube or something. Have a great New year and don’t sabotage your workouts or your creativity!!!

    Thanks so much for sharing!!!!1

  2. It was funny when i read your blog it sounds like me. I just ordered a tone and streach to get me started and like you i will have to do it when i get up. After i have my coffee of course. I really like the colors you used on all your cards. I am not good at choosing my colors, even with a color coach(how bad is that)! I love to try and case your cards to send to my family. I tell them all how fantastic you are and what beautiful work you do. Thanks so much Michele and may you and your family have a Happy New Year.

  3. Happy New Year! I love your tutorials….I always pick up a neat tip or trick. Post them whenever you can….taking care of you is most important! Maybe you could do a once-a-week thing that would give you more time to edit & post? You are so talented & sweet to share your process with us all. Have fun with the new excercise routine & with the new year!

  4. Happy New Year and welcome back! I’m glad you had a revitalizing December. We all need that. Good luck on the exercising. I have to exercise in the mornings too or it never happens the rest of the day. I love this tutorial as I see so many possibilites using this background. I must try one soon. (Happy dancing now that you’re back.) 😀

  5. I love your tutorials and look forward to each and every one of them. I use them for reference all the time.

I also, all too well, understand the lack of time in a day. The whole working full time thing isn’t as glamorous as one might think. I feel like my feet hit the floor at 5:15 am and I don’t get done with the day until 9:30 pm, and my brain shut down at about 8:50 pm. I give you a lot of credit for being able to get up and exercise first thing. I don’t think I could physically get up at 4 and exercise.

I will continue to look forward to your tutorials, whenever you get to post.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

  6. All of your cards are beautiful Michelle! Looking forward to all your tutorials in 2009!! Happy New Years!

  7. You are so right, the older I get the faster time flies. There is not enough hours in the day it seems. Well you have not lost your touch during vacation :). This card is fabulous. I always look at your tutorials, and take something from it, you are always so inspiring, and many of us who began blogging this year have you on the top of our blog lists :). Happy new year, good luck on your exercise regiment.

  8. Happy New Year! It is great to see you back blogging. I wish you happiness and peace in the New Year as well as good luck with the exercise program – maybe you will motivate me to do it too! Thank you for sharing this wonderful tutorial! debb

  9. Michelle~ I come every day, I get such inspiration from you! Sometimes I buy whatever you used, lol, but rarely make anything similar! You have seen my alcohol inked cards at SCS, you commented on a Halloween one not long ago- the witches and birds flying in the sky were inspired by your cards! I love that you use SU inks and papers, it’s so nice to see that ‘art’ can come from them as well as. I also love that you use Prisma markers, since it means us ‘po folk’ can create and not lust for the more expensive Copics! Thanks for all you do! And, I wish I could motivate myself to exercise, too! Health trumps inspiration, I’d say!

  10. Happy New Year! All the best with the exercising. It is always a treat to do something for one’s self, even though it is EARLY in the morning. I love your tutorials and have had many compliments on cards that I have made using your techniques. Anytime you put up a blog entry will be greatly welcomed by all. Thank you for your commitment to this.

  11. Hi Michelle. I love your blog! The tutorials on your blog helped me get started and find my niche in cardmaking. I’ve got the brayering thing down now but I still enjoy your blog to show me different color combos to use together in brayering, different scenes that could be created, and different stamps that could be used. Thank you!!!! Here’s a recent card I made (sky was brayered in Soft Sky & Baja Blue):

  12. Great tutorial, Michelle! I always read them and they really have helped me transform my stamping art. Good luck with the new daily schedule, and have a happy and prosperous 2009!

  13. Michelle,

You have been the best inspiration for me! Your’s is really the only blog that I check everyday. Please keep on keepin on. We need you for inspiration. For example, if I had been making this card, it would NEVER have occured to me to keep the water lighter underneath the moon. But of course it makes sense. You are quite the artiste.

  14. Happy New Year! I am so glad that you had a relaxing holiday with your family. But I am thrilled that you are back. I love your wonderful creations and the fact that you take the time to explain everything so well. Thanks for your dedication. I wish you all the best in 2009!

  15. Beautiful cards! I especially love your first challenge card. Your tutorials are fabulous and you’ve helped me improve my coloring so much. Thanks for your inspiration, and the best to you in 2009!

  16. Glad to see you back and am very proud to learn you are going to take better care of yourself! Goodness knows we all need to practice that! I can wait for your tutorials until later in the day…… will be hard but I’ll be strong. As far as, “do we appreciate your tutorials?” Girl you must know we do. I’ll try to do better and start linking so you can see my attempts at Zindorf style cards! Speaking of cards, this one is a great way to start the New Year!! Love that stamp………mmmm….well, there goes one of my resolutions…..cutting back on buying more stamps!!! Should have known I was lying to myself again!!! Happy New Year Michelle!

  17. Great to see you again, Michelle :0)
A wonderful tutorial as usual, you always inspire me to get out the inks and brayer, shame my work never looks anything as good as yours lol.
All the best for 2009 :0)
    **Hugs** Heather x

  18. Happy New Year!!! As always, your cards are amazing. One of my New Years Resolutions is to actually try one of your tutorials. :-)

  19. Happy New Year!
Beautiful – just beautiful – Thanks for sharing.

Can you tell me what stamps you used on the other 2 cards – they are great as well.

  20. Happy New Year MIchelle! I am so glad to see you back blogging! I’ve missed you. I do understand the need to get the exercise in. I actually walk to work and back at lunch and the workout after work with a colleague. You just have to fit it into your schedule to the best of your ability. We all want you to be healthy so you can keep on stamping and blogging!! Thanks for all your wonderful tutorials.

  21. Welcome back. Please keep posting the tutorials as I got hubby to add to my ink colours this Christmas so I can play more. I only have adirondack colours and about 2 su ones but that should give me scope. Love today’s card – my mind is whizzing through the stamps I have to see what I could use! How you can get up so early is beyond me. I struggle to set the alarm for 7 am, now I know why I struggle to fit exercise in! Happy and Healthy New year wishes to you and the family.

  22. Welcome back to the blog world. Missed your tutorials!

  23. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much for your tutorials. I would love to try all of your tutorials but, like you, I a quite busy with family and work (and ugh house cleaning). However, i did get to try your wolf tut for my daughter who is huge twilight fan. It turned out to be way easier (though not as good as yours) than it looked, thanks to your excellent instructions. She loved it so much i made a couple of birthday cards as well. I made sure to give you all the credit though. Please know that your tutorials are GREATLY appreciated and stored away for future use.
    Thanks again,

  24. Wow…I’m so impressed and inspired…exercising so early and working all day and still stamping! Yikes. I love, love, love your tutorials. They inspire me and educate me! This card is gorgeous!

I just love your tutorials and have learned so much from them.
Iwill also be trying to do some kind of excercise – I keep procrastinating

Oh this card is so restful! I have never seen those stamps before – how lovely.

I have been trying your tuts ~ unfortunately I can’t get my brayering the way I like it. More practice and I hope I will ‘get’ it. I have learned so much from you about so many other things as well.

Your two cards for the Split Coast Stampers are beautiful . . . .

Thank you for taking up your precious time to do these for us. I am very thankful for you.

Good luck with your excerising – 4:00 am is awful early! You put in such a long day!!!

  33. Patty Stabile

Happy New Year Michelle….a that little bit about you being ‘rusty’ — hah — I don’t think so! I wish you luck in your exercise program. don’t over do it too soon, or you will burn out and not continue.. Slow and steady !

  34. Sorry Folks! I missed telling you the stamps used in the challenge cards. The trees are from Stampendous “Winter Trees” and the other is Papertreyink “Pond Life”.

  36. Hi Michelle

Great you’re back; I’m so glad. I hope you enjoyed Christmas and so. I wish you a very happy new year.

  37. Oh, I am so happy you’re back!!!! I have missed your tutorials and cards SO MUCH! It’s been a very dry December. (ok, enough moaning….)

I hope your December break was all that you wanted and needed it to be. Family-time has a way of calming and centering you. But I guess that depends on your family! heehee

We’ll be on your schedule from now on. Used to be the first RSS feed I checked in the morning — now it will be after work — when I can maybe play around and try some of your tutorials. It’s all a good thing!

Thank you, again, for doing all of this.

  38. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

I checked your sight every day hoping to see another great creation, what a wonderful adiction. I love your two new creations. of course you used two of my favorite thems (birds and trees).

Foolish me, nay I say… dumb me, I started my diet just before Thanksgiving and now feel so proud, I have lost 25 pounds…go girl…you can do it!! Don’t ask how many more I want to loose but I have set a deadline of March 1, 2009.

Just don’t get to weak you can’t do your cards and tutorials (ha, ha).

  39. Another great tutorial! Good luck with your exercise program. Happy 2009!

  40. Your are such a busy person. I am so glad that you are back to blogging. I missed seeing your marvellous work. You always do a wonderful job and your directions are fantastic. Have a great 2009.

Thanks again for making time to give us the tutorials…you are such a great inspiration.

Best wishes to you and yours for a joyful, peaceful, creative new year!!

  42. Happy New Year, Michelle. Your new schedule sounds very ambitious. I look forward to each and every one of your posts. I, for one, would be moe than happy with one post per week—wouldn’t that be easier for you? You are by far my #1 favorite blog, BUT I don’t want to see you get burned out. Your inspiration keeps me going and feeling very creative. Thanks so much.

  43. I forgot to answer your request – Yes I use the tutorials – yes I find them very helpful and do use (or try to use) your techniques – I have also bought many of the stamps you use because you make them look so useful and do beautiful things with them.
I am very appreciative of your talents and the fact that you share your talents with us! Thank you and good luck with your new exercise program – I should start one …. hmmm.
    Thanks again … and enjoy!

  44. Your cards are just so beautiful. If only stamping was an aerobic activity!

  45. Evelyn in Oregon

Oh, Michelle…I’ve missed your creations! It’s wonderful to have you back…and what a wonderful ‘gift bag’ full of goodies today!

Exercise….it’s better for you than this, even though we don’t want to admit it. lol Personally, I’ll be willing to take you in smaller doses, as long as you continue to share with us.

BTW…have you had a job all the time? I’ve just followed your blog for a few months, so I don’t know.

Welcome back, and thanks for the beautiful works of art.

  46. Michelle,
Thank you so much for the inspiration you have given me! I love your style and check you blog daily. I’m glad Christmas is over, and blogging will now resume!

Here are 3 cards using your style in my tiny SC gallery that I made for Halloween.

  47. Welcome back! I see no rust!!! I could never get up at 4 or 5 a.m. to do anything. How do you manage? I don’t, however, get home at 4:30 p.m. from work. It’s more like 7-8 p.m. then there’s dinner and cleanup. I do need to exercise too but I can’t fatham getting up that early! Great piece of artwork you have here. Thank you!

  48. Happy New Year to you, Michelle. I have been receiving your tutorials for only a few months, but was instantly hooked and become a fan. Your talent is inspiring and your tutorials are nicely done. I finally have enough Adirondack stamp pads to do some of your tutorials and can’t wait to start playing! Have a wonderful 2009.

  49. bonjour
    Superbe !! superbe !!

merci pour tout et bonne année 2009

  50. Happy New Year and welcome back. I love your tutorials and your awesome cards. Thank you for sharing. Marliese

  51. Welcome back and Happy New Year to you as well. Thanks for all the tutorials and ideas and tips, I really use them! I’ll try and post a photo – I’ve not done that yet – can you make a tutorial for that??? Just kidding! We’ll look forward to your posts whenever you can squeeze them in.

  52. I know I’m not alone in saying this, but you were really missed over the holidays. Welcome back. Happy New Year to you.
Living in Florida we see this sight often over the beaches, your Peaceful Flight is so beautifully done. Thank you for your wonderful pieces.

  53. Rusty, huh? Hmmm, I think there are an awful lot of stampers that would like to be ‘rusty’ like you! lol
I hope your break was renewing and just what you needed. Now, back to teaching all of us how to be rusty too! :)

  54. Happy New Year! So glad to see you back to your tutorials. (And we’ll take them anytime you can get them published!) ;D This is wonderful! I love to guess how you make your cards before I read your tutorial and on this one I thought you embossed the bird first. Ahhh, this is why I read your tutorials, I’d be out in left field if I didn’t! LOL!

  55. I want to be you when I grow up! I love what you can do with a brayer!
