Sand Castle Kind of Day - Tutorial #217 and Blog Candy

Published by zindorf at 8:43 am under Tutorials

dsc09282.JPG

Is it time to hit the beach?  I love beach scenes.  But, since I live in Ohio I don’t get to see the ocean and sand very often.  I have found I can create one when I want to escape.  So this morning I took a trip to the beach for a little R & R in stamping.

I also have a bit of blog candy for you.  I am giving this Card away along with the Beautiful Inkadinkado Sand Castle Stamp I created it with.

dsc09288.JPG

Now let’s go to the beach!

Ink: Stampin’ Up Creamy Caramel, Pacific Point, Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Close to Cocoa

dsc09286.JPG

Stamped the Sand Castle on a 3.5″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Creamy Caramel ink before stamping it.

dsc09258.JPG

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc09259.JPG

Colored in the castle with an Eggshell Prismacolor marker.

dsc09262.JPG

Added Blondwood Prismacolor Marker to the darker areas of the castle.

dsc09263.JPG

Getting darker yet I added Walnut Prismacolor Marker to the right side of the shadow areas.

dsc09264.JPG

Added a touch of Deco Peach Prismacolor Marker to the shells.

dsc09265.JPG

Colored in the flag with a Crimson Red Prismacolor Marker.

dsc09266.JPG

Colored over the castle and the shells with a Versamark marker and heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc09267.JPG

dsc09268.JPG

Now that my images are heat embossed I can brayer my back ground in and the embossing will resist the ink.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc09269.JPG

Brayered a bit of Pacific Point ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc09270.JPG

Brayered Creamy Caramel ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc09271.JPG

Masked the sky area of the scene with a Post it note.

dsc09272.JPG

Sponged Pacific Point ink at the post it note edge and onto the card stock to create a horizon line.

dsc09273.JPG

Wiped the ink off of my embossed images using an old cotton towel.

dsc09274.JPG

Sponged a bit more Pacific Point ink at the top of the card stock to create some interest in the sky area.

dsc09275.JPG

Sponged a bit of Close to Cocoa ink under the castle to create a bit of a shadow.

dsc09276.JPG

Added white gel pen dots at the water edge to create foam.

dsc09277.JPG

Used my Big Shot and the dot Texture plate on my Pacific Point Panel.

dsc09278.JPG

Sponge a bit of Not Quit Navy at the top of the main image panel.  Also sponged Not Quite Navy around the edge of the Textured Pacific Point Panel.

dsc09279.JPG

Assembled the card, added ribbon and red brads.

dsc09281.JPG

Here it is finished measuring 5.25″ square.

dsc09282.JPG

May your day be filled with relaxing scenes.  If not, make one!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

Love the beach scenes we spend half of our life in Florida. The beach cards seem to make me smile more, I don’t know if it is the colors used or my imagination taking me to the shore and hearing the sounds of the water, birds, etc. Love the card, Linda

  38. Deniseon 30 May 2009 at 10:53 am

    Michelle,
I’m with you on the beach and relaxation. Luckily, I live in the South and am not to far from the beaches that I love. Thank you so much for this one today and taking the time to set out the process step by step. My husband is giving me that opportunity as soon as our house here sells and he retires (hopefully before winter hits again) we’ll be moving to Florida. My friend Jill and I just used this color combo last night! Of course the card we made wasn’t as cute, but I loved it! I also like that you embossed with creamy caramel! It gives instant shading on the focal point and I would never have thought of using that color but I love it! I am stuck on black - will have to make a change to try this great card!

This is great! The beach is my fantasy escape — or “happy place” as I like to call it. Thinking I’m on the beach puts me in a calmer, happier mood.

This sandcastle reminds me of playing with my little brother, now deceased, on a family vacation to Florida when we were little. I was 8 and he was 3. We had so much fun that summer!

Thank you for bringing back that happy memory and allowing me a chance to win.

I love your card Michelle!! Sand Castles remind me of the good childhood days that I had, growing up in Monterey CA. I loved to go play at the beach and go tide pooling and digging up sand crabs and making castles. They were so in to it down there, that they would have the big contests that would blow your mind. Thank you for all that you do to inspire us. I’m not worthy. hehe.

Have to add to that Sandcastles have always been a special image for me. My friends in Southern Oregon tease me since I have a few of the real things preserved and pictures of them too. Have you seen the Sizzix sandcastle die cuts? They’ve a couple of fun ones.

Hugs and blessings and thanks as always for sharing your talents and inspiration - Jean
