Lite Up Horses - Tutorial #221

Today’s tutorial is all about light. I loaded my stamps with a light color and a dark color of ink before stamping to create the look of light hitting the images in the scene. I happened to like this card very much, in fact this turned out to be one of my favorites. It’s funny when I really like a card, it seems like everyone else doesn’t, lol.
The stamp set I used is “Wanted” from Stampin’ Up. This set is one that is timeless. It will be one that I keep after it retires.
It is hard for me to create something Southwestern looking without using grudged up Creamy Caramel card stock. It is so very easy to give it a leather look with a little ink. Hang out a moment here and check it out.
Let’s get started.

I loaded my stamp with Versamark, than loaded it with Creamy Caramel ink, than patted on some Basic Black ink on the lower parts of the horse on the stamp, than stamped the image on a 3.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White Card stock. There it is, already colored and shadowed.
Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.
Repeated the stamping and heat embossing for the second horse.
Stamped the Wanted stamp the very same way as the horse and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.
Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink from the bottom of the card stock.
Brayered Brilliant Blue ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Tempting Turquoise ink entirely.
Wiped off my embossed images with an old cotton towel.
Stamped the round image over the wanted image with Tempting Turquoise ink.
Used a post it note and sponged Tempting Turquoise ink at the edge of it to create rays of light.
Sponged Black ink at the bottom of the card stock and around the edges.
Time to grunge up some Creamy Caramel card stock.
Sponged Black ink lightly around the edge of the card stock.
Sponged Creamy Caramel ink over the Black ink. Ta da. . . Faux leather, lol.
Assembled card front and used my Stampin’ Up piercing tool and mats around the main image panel.
Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I agree Michelle, I love this one!!! One of my most favorite techniques I have learned from you is to play with light. Like adding a simple black line on the left side of the image(s) and then white gel pen to the right sides. I am off to case this one and once again, thanks so much for taking the time to create and share this beauty in your tutorial.

Michelle, I was totally inspired by the blue light masking! I went right to work on my own version as soon as I saw this post! Mine was a “moonscape”, and I had the light radiate off of the moon. SO FUN!
