A Butterfly’s Bad Day - Tutorial #241
Announcement, Announcement! I will be bringing my Brayer Workshops to the wonderful town of St. Cloud, Minnesota on July 5-6, 2010. For information/Registrations, please e-mail me at: mzindorf@aim.com.
Now about this wacky tutorial today, lol. I like to challenge myself to use stamps that are seasonal in the off season, clear as mud. :) Anywho, this is one of the Stampin’ Up wheels that I unmounted yesterday. It is called Arachnophobia. I consider this a Halloween stamp and was so happy to get another use out of it. Wouldn’t this card make you laugh if you were having a ruff time and someone sent it to you? How can you look at those goofy spiders and not grin, at least.
Let’s get on with the tutorial. . . . . .
Supplies:
Stamps: Stampin’ Up Arachnophobia Wheel and Dreams Du Jour
Paper: Stampin’ Up Lavender Lace, Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black & Whisper White
Ink: Stampin’ Up Tempting Turquoise & Basic Black
Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig, White Gel Pen, Prismacolor Pencil, Paper Snips, Old Olive Brads, Piercing Tool, Sponge, Post it notes and Ruler

I drew the spiderweb using a ruler and a White Gel Pen on a piece of Black card stock. The card stock started out larger than when I finished. I ended up cropping it down to 3″ square.
I masked the corners with post it notes to miter the stamped image so they would look more uniformed where they met each other.
Stamped the unmounted “Arachnophobia” stamp using Basic Black ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement. Repeated the masking and stamping process for each side of the card stock.
Colored the spider’s eyes in with a White Gel Pen.
Colored the Spiders bodies in with a Spring Green Prismacolor pencil.
Stamped the Butterfly from the “Dreams du Jour” set on a piece of Whisper White Card stock.
Colored the butterfly with a Tempting Turquoise marker and the Spring Green Prismacolor Pencil.
Cut the Butterfly out with my paper snips.
Edged the butterfly with my White Gel pen so it would stand out more. If I had been thinking I would have just left some white card stock around the butterfly as I was cutting it out.
Sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the edge of the spider panel.
Assembled the card front and added Old Olive brads to the front of the card using a piercing tool to start the brads.
Finished assembling the card and here it is finished measuring 5.5″ square.
I hope this tutorial has inspired you to look at those seasonal stamps in a different light.
May your day be much, much better than this Butterfly’s.
Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..
Huge Hugs,
Michelle

Although I’m not big on spiders…this made me laugh out loud! Quite cute…for spiders!
Hi Michelle. This card does make me smile and feel good!! I also like what you did with your roller stamps. Thanks for the tool tip.
This is just to stink-en cute, only you could think up such an awesome design. I just love this, you rock..:)
Poor futterbly!!!! What a fun card though! Gave me a chuckle. Thanks for taking the extra steps to show how you used the post it notes to make the corners look more finished. I have run into this problem before and didn’t know how to address it. You have inspired me to go through more of my seasonal stamps and take a different look to see what I can do.
Quite humurous card. Love it. Cause sometimes life feels like we’re tangled in a massive web. Or is it the web we weave?
Anyho, love the punch of color, especially the spiders. They are really cute. This card feels like a play on words yet it’s picturing real life. Crazy.
Nice job.
great card! What size block to you use for the unmounted wheel stamps?
thanks for all the great tips!
Sandra
Sandra asked “great card! What size block to you use for the unmounted wheel stamps?”
Sandra, the unmounted wheel fits perfectly on a 1″ x 7″ block.
Michelle
*LOL* Great card. Love the spiders!
Your right that would make someone laugh. It did me.
Ohhhh, jeeesh - I LOVE THIS CARD!!!
It is time to unmount those wheels I find I am not using as they are. LOVE these spiders. Great web design and the corner finish is perfect. FUN. Happy Hump Day (the week is 1/2 over!) Hugs…
Love it! It made me laugh and I needed that today!
great card! that’s hilarious!
mitering edges also terrific. thx!
I laughed out loud when I saw this card!! LOVE it!!!!
now this is something I love! Great twist!
Okay, this was so unexpected that I just had to laugh! What a fun card. As always, thanks for sharing!
Loved the card! but was really happy to hear you unmounted your wheels. After taking your class in June, I came home and have been very, very busy unmounting my stamps and putting them in 3-ring binders. Had a hard time cleaning the backs off a few of them, but finally was able to find something to take off the sticky glue. I’ve almost finished with a bottle of the Tacky Over and Over. Thank You for getting me motivated and just doing it!! Saw you were coming to MN again, so am going to check out my calendar
