Ultimate Sacrifice – Tutorial #337
Before I start today’s tutorial, please take a moment to read the following. Thank you
The “Memorial” in Memorial Day has been ignored by too many of us who are beneficiaries of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Often we do not observe the day as it should be, a day where we actively remember our ancestors, our family members, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice:
- by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
- by visiting memorials.
- by flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.
- by flying the ‘POW/MIA Flag’ as well (Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act).
- by participating in a “National Moment of Remembrance“: at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.
- by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our falled dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.

Supplies:
| Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Courage |
| Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Dusty Durango and Basic Black |
| Ink: Stampin’ Up! Apricot Appeal, Pumpkin Pie, Dusty Durango and Basic Black |
| Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Big Shot Machine, Clear Circle Die, Basic Black marker and Sponges |

Cut a 4″ circle using the Clear Circle Die and my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.
Sponged Apricot Appeal ink in the center of the card stock.
Sponged Pumpkin Pie ink around the edge of the card stock, overlapping the Apricot Appeal ink some.
Sponged Dusty Durango ink around the edge of the card stock, not covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.
Stamped the Stampin’ Up! Courage Stamp using Basic Black ink.
Colored in the saluting soldier, plane and ship using a Basic Black marker.
Cut a 4.5″ x 5″ Basic Black Panel. Cut a 1.5″ x 5″ panel and ripped the top edge off. Glued the circle down on the large Basic Black panel and then the ripped panel over the bottom of the circle.
Assembled the rest of the card. Here it is finished measuring 5 1/8″ x 6 1/8″.

This is just gorgeous and so inspiring. I just love the color combo and love how you colored some of the image black.
I love this card. It serves to remind those of us who do not live in the US, that both our country’s are at war, and the sacrifices made by those serving, and their families.

Beautiful, goose bump giving! My husband was in the Army, my dad in the Air Force and my grandfather in the Army of the doughboys.

My husband and I are both retired Navy and now two of our sons are active military so when I say that I support our troops I definitely mean it.
And I also wanted to take a moment to tell you that I have been very blessed by several of the gals I met when I took your class in STL back in February. There are a couple of “SU orphans” (Ann B. and Debbie N.) in the group with whom I have connected and we are getting together occasionally….without taking your class I would never have had the opportunity to meet these nice ladies! This is one of the days my husband and I feel very special and honored to be able to particapate in. Growing up my family always made a very special day of going to the cemetery, parade, and other places to hornor the Vets. Our FLAG is flying today.
This card is beautiful and says so much without any words!!!!!!!! Thank you and we will always remember those who did not return.
the card makes a bold statement; American, Canadian, or whomever, we all need to be reminded of our troupes & the great work they continue to do, even though tragedities cannot be avoided!
