Punched Cattails – Tutorial #359
Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me.. . . . la, la, la, la. LOL.
If you haven’t guessed, today is my birthday. I’m putting off the celebration though until a better time. My mother is very sick and in the hospital so I will be spending my birthday with her. Anyway, what better person to spend your birthday with than the very one that brought you into the world, your Mother, right?
Before I run off to the hospital this morning, I have a fun tutorial for you. This tutorial shows you how to turn grasses into cattails with punches.
Let’s get started. .. .
Supplies:
Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Inspired by Nature
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Cajun Craze, Basic Black and More Mustard
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Horizontal Slot punch, 2.5″ circle punch, Photo Corner punch, Brayer, Sponge, Basic Black marker, White Gel Pen, piercing Tools and Gold Brads

Brayered Daffodil Delight ink at the top of a 3.75″ x 5.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock.
Added a 2.5″ circle punched from the sticky part of a post it note and used it as a mask for my sun. Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink at the bottom of the card stock up to the top.
Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.
Removed the sun mask and stamped the Stampin’ Up! Inspired By Nature Grasses using Early Espresso ink.
Using the Stampin’ Up! Horizontal Slot Punch, punched some pieces out of Early Espresso card stock. Note: if you don’t have a Horizontal Slot Punch, use a very small circle punch and cut two sides of each punch to create the same shape.
Colored one half of the punches with a Basic Black marker to create a shadow side.
Glued some of the punches on the grasses, dark side away from the sun.
Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock.
Added highlights to the grasses and catails.
Added Basic Black, More Mustard and Cajun Craze card stock panels. Also added Cajun Craze and Basic Black Photo Corner Punches.
Added 3 gold brads to each of the Cajun Craze Photo Corners.
Using Piercing Tools, pierced around the Cajun Craze Panel.
Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″
May your day be overflowing with Joy and Laughter.
Until my next post. . . . . . .
Hugs,
Michelle

As with everyone else here, I’ll pray for good health for your Mom and birthday blessings for you. The card is lovely and I love cattails! Here’s a funny thing – as you constructed the card in the tutorial, I couldn’t help but visualize the punches as hot dogs! Now, I can see a card with the ‘grasses’ from the side, the ‘hot dogs’ on the ends, over a campfire! … I must be hungry …
Wishing you a Happy Birthday on what ever day you choose to celebrate it!! I love today’s tutorial! Cat tails have been a favorite of mine!

Happy Birthday and many more!
I hope you Mom makes a speedy recovery!
Happy Birthday, Michelle, and warm wishes for your mother’s improved health. I love your card, as usual. What I did to create cattails is to cut out a small piece of left over rubber in a cattail shape. It is quite small to work with but seems to fill the bill.
Happy Birthday! I hope your mother gets well soon. What a lovely and creative card. Thank you for sharing.
Whenever I look at your cards all I can say is “WOW!” This is certainly another beauty!!
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a good day. Hope your Mom is feeling better soon too! -Diane

Hi Michelle
Happy belated birthday! May your day have been one of the most happiest this year and filled with joy and surprises!
Awesome card! Wish I could “see” things like you!! You are an amazing artist, thanks so much for sharing!
Oh Michelle your tutorial are absolutely wonderful, I am challenging myself to try some of the things that I have never done. I love this card as the colours are so me, however I don’t seem to be able to get my brayer to move smoothly, I have lines it doesn’t seem to blend very well. Is there a trick to doing this sort of thing?
Absolutely gorgeous card! Love your clever idea on how to make cattails.
Thank you for the amazing tutorial! Love the way you made the cattails 3D!
