I’ve been getting requests for an update on how the girls are doing this Winter. I don’t spend much time hanging out with them when it’s cold for apparent reasons. 🙂
They are doing just fine even though our temperatures of late have been near zero and we have had snow on the ground for a while now.
They got to leave their chicken run yesterday when the temps peaked into the 30’s. The snow is melting and there was quite a bit of grass to peck around in.
They are mostly careful to avoid standing in the snow with their little chicken feet, not that I blame them.
Unfortunately, as seen in the first picture of this post the path of grass tends to lead them right to my door where they press their little chicken beaks to the glass, it’s pitiful!
The newest two, Jo Jo with the crumpled foot and the other one that we call “the one that walks well”, sounds like this chicken has Indian hertiage, right? Anyway here they are pictured with Red in the middle. They are just as large as the rest of the flock now, but they are certainly still at the bottom of the pecking order, but holding their own. 🙂 The one that walks well is laying pretty little eggs about half the size as a normal egg. I don’t believe Jo Jo is laying yet.
Note to self, name that poor chicken.
