Sometimes I Feel Like a Mad Scientist

It’s not glamorous and I’m certainly keeping it real by showing you this picture.  Quite frequently in the Winter months when I’m hold up in the house my attention turns to my soap making.  Soap making can be dangerous so you need to wear protective clothing, gloves and goggles, cute right, lol.

I have lots and lots of little brown bottles of fragrance and colors and super large 5 gallon containers of coconut oil, olive oil and palm oil and many more oils and additives to make my soap special.

Other things are needed, scale measuring cups molds etc.  It gets super crazy in my kitchen.

When I get all of this stuff out I pretty much make it an all day event and make many batches of different soaps.  On this soap making day I made a total of 20 lbs of the best smelling soap on the planet.  The house is filled with fragrance!

After 24 to 48 hours the fun really begins when I get to un-mold the soap and see what I created.

I hand cut all of my soap and check out, the scent, color and the pretty swirls.   :)

The soap then goes on my stacking racks to cure for 4 weeks.  This is to harden the bars to make them long lasting.  Yep, it’s quite the process but so fun!

After the 4 weeks is up the soap gets packaged up and ready for sale and use.

So, if you catch me looking crazy in my goggles and gear you know what I’ve been up to.  Nothing illegal being cooked up here just my lovely hand crafted soaps.

One more thing before I wrap up this post. . . HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

This pic is of two of my Valentine grand daughters, Aubree 3.5 years and Riley 8 months.  They fill my heart with joy.

I will be back in a bit with a hand stamped project so hang tight my friend.

  1. How do I go about ordering soap from you? I can’t find a website link on your blog.

    • Hi Paula, thank you for your interest in my soaps. I current have a low inventory so I have been forced to take the link down until I rebuild my inventory. It should be back up in the middle of March. :) Hugs!

  2. Michelle,

  3. OMG! Chickens, Bees, Soap Making, Gorgeous Handmade Cards & Beautiful Grandbabies!! YYou are one AMAZING woman!! xoxoxo

  4. I too would be very interested in purchasing some of your soap. Please remind us when you have more inventory!

  5. Michelle,
The soaps look amazing! I have always wanted to give that process a try. I had no idea what a mad scientist one needs to be to create soap bars! Looks like fun and thanks for sharing.

  6. Hi Michelle,
Just wanted to let you know that I am a soap maker also. Love making the stuff and more so using it. Do you use caustic soda in your soaps or something like beeswax and if so, how do you do it. I use the soda and would love to change from it.
If you have the time, what sorts of fragrances do you use. I use of course, lavender, rose geranium, lemon, lime, coconut and a new one I found which has a very berry fragrance. Have you got some really great combinations of fragrances that I could try?
It seems like you start from scratch and mix and blend with stick blender as I do. How do you get the swirls of colour. I am soo busy getting the mixture into my moulds that I don’t do anything else with it but let it set and dry.
Sorry my post is so long but it would be interesting to get your comments and ideas please.
    Many, many thanks, Marie Hook.
p.s. By the way I also love your cards you post.

    • Hi Marie, I do use sodium Hydroxide in my soap making. I use a lot of different fragrances and get most of my combinations off of the internet. I use a very light trace and do most of my color swirls in the pot before pouring it in the mold. :) Hugs!
