Published by zindorf under Tutorials

dsc02111.JPG

Brrrr, it is a bit chilly outside today.  We received a few inches of snow and it just looks cold out.  :)  But I am snug as a bug in my stamping room so I created a card that will hopefully warm you up a bit wherever you are today.

But before I start today’s tutorial let me announce the lucky winner of the Stampin’ Up! Asian Artistry stamp set blog candy.   The winner is. . . . . . .

elaine E who wrote “well, I probably don’t stand a chance to win the Asian Artistry set. I do love Oriental cards, and make a lot of them. Have not been able to get this set…………..so would really love to win it.
But anyway, I have to say, I can’t believe how you make the swirl effect on this card! How creative!! Can I borrow your muse, when you take a break? LOL

Congratulations Elaine E, please e-mail your mailing address to mzindorf@aim.com within the next 30 days and I will pop this great set in the mail to you.

dsc02112.JPG

On a 3″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the coffee cup using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc02081.JPG

dsc02082.JPG

Stamped the Flourish from the “Season of Joy” set 4 times on the left hand side of the card stock using Versamark only and heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder.

dsc02083.JPG

dsc02084.JPG

Brayered Summer Sun ink all over the card stock.

dsc02085.JPG

Wiped the ink from the embossed images using a cotton towel.

dsc02086.JPG

Heated the card stock with my heat gun to dry the Summer Sun ink and then used my Embossing Buddy all over the card stock.  You will definately not want to skip this step or the embossing powder in the next steps will stick all over your card stock.

dsc02087.JPG

Stamped the Flourish with Versamark only on the Right hand side of the card stock and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc02088.JPG

dsc02089.JPG

Tore a post it note in a hill shape and masked the bottom of the card stock with it.

dsc02090.JPG

Stamped the Stamp from the “Boho Backgrounds” set half on the post it note and half off using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc02091.JPG

dsc02092.JPG

Removed the post it note mask and brayered More Mustard ink all over the card stock.

dsc02094.JPG

Wiped the ink from the embossed images using a cotton towel.

dsc02095.JPG

Sponge Really Rust ink heavily at the bottom of the card stock to create a hill that goes up to the sun.  Also sponged Really Rust ink lightly in the sky area at the top of the card stock.

dsc02096.JPG

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Really Rust ink entirely.

dsc02097.JPG

Made rows of dots with a gel pen to simulate sun rays.

dsc02098.JPG

Cut a 3 7/8″ x 8 7/8″ piece of Pumpkin Pie card stock and stamped the new Very Vintage Wheel over the card stock using Really Rust ink.  This new stamp is in the new Occasions Stampin’ Up Mini that will be in effect January 5, 2010.  The Very Vintage stamp is a Jumbo Wheel, but I like to unmount mine and use them as stamps.  If you want more information on unmounting Wheels, here is a link to a post showing you how I do it:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2009/07/28/tool-time-unmounting-wheels/

By the way, I love, love, love this Wheel and will be using this in my backgrounds very often.

dsc02099.JPG

Brayered Really Rust ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc02100.JPG

Brayered Chocolate Chip ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Really Rust ink entirely.

dsc02101.JPG

Used the Swirly Die, Chocolate Chip card stock and my Big Shot Die Cut machine to create this die cut.

dsc02102.JPG

Punched it out and Glued it on the card stock.  Glued all of it down but the two large swirls that I want to go on top of my main image panel.

dsc02103.JPG

Glued the main image panel on and the Swirls were glued down on top of it.

Decided to darken the coffee cup.  Colored over the coffee cup with a Really Rust marker and wiped the ink off of the embossed image.  Added a dark shadow at the bottom of the coffee cup and the handle using a Chocolate Chip marker.

dsc02104.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.  This size card fits into a #10 size business envelope that is very economical to pick up at an office supply store.

dsc02111.JPG

Well I hope this card warmed you a bit.

May your day be overflowing with peace and love.

Until my next post. . . . . . .

Happy Holidays and Hugs,

Michelle

Published by zindorf under Tutorials

dsc02036.JPG

Now that I have got all of my Christmas cards made and in the mail I thought I would turn my attention to a warmer subject, such as love.  I know, ahhhhhhh, lol.  Actually, I was dying to use a new set that I received in my pre-order from the new Stampin’ Up mini catalog that will be out January 5, 2010.  Which is only a few short weeks from now.   The set I am referring to is called “I (Heart) Hearts” and includes the two hearts that I used for the center of this card.

But before I start the tutorial I want to give all of you a chance to win a bit of blog candy.  It is a great Stampin’ Up Level 2 hostess set “Asian Artistry”.

I will use a random number generator on Monday, December 20, 2009 to select the winner.  Good luck everyone!

Now on with the tutorial. . . . .  . .

dsc02040.JPG

Sponged Apricot Appeal ink in the middle of a 4.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc02018.JPG

Used a ruler and made a dot with a pencil in the middle of the card stock.

dsc02019.JPG

Sponged More Mustard ink around the Apricot Appeal ink.

dsc02020.JPG

Sponged Dusty Durango around the outside of the More Mustard ink.

dsc02021.JPG

Sponged Real Red ink around the edge of the card stock.

dsc02022.JPG

Cut a 4.5″ circle using my Stampin’ Up Circle Scissors Plus and lined the card stock circle up with the pencil dot on my card stock and the bottom left corner.

dsc02023.JPG

Sponged Dusty Durango ink at the circle card stock edge from the dot on the card stock to the bottom corner.  Moved the circle a bit and repeated sponging at the edge of the circle.  Repeated this 5 times.

dsc02024.JPG

dsc02025.JPG

Turned my card stock upside down and repeated the above process again.

dsc02026.JPG

dsc02027.JPG

Removed the circle and used my Stamp-a-ma-jig and Basic Black ink and stamped the first heart in the center.  The pencil dot helps to make sure this is in the center.

dsc02028.JPG

dsc02029.JPG

Used my Stamp-a-ma-jig and Basic Black ink to stamp the second heart in the center of the card stock.

dsc02030.JPG

Stamped the flourish from the Stampin’ Up set Baroque Motifs in Basic Black on the top and bottom of the card stock.

dsc02031.JPG

Added Basic Black and Real Red panels.  Also added two large photo corner punches and gold brads.

dsc02032.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.

dsc02036.JPG

I hope your day is warmed by love.

Huge Hugs and Happy Holidays,

Michelle

Altered Rolodex Birthday Reminder

Published by zindorf under Projects without Tutorial

dsc02006.JPG

Sorry, no tutorial today.  But I do have a project to share.

Well yesterday I took a look at my “to do” list and seen this project that has been on the list for, oh, about 6 months, lol.    So instead of carrying it forward once again to my new  to do list I actually sat down and went to work.    I purchased this rolodex at an office supply store, on sale, of course and decided to turn it into a birthday reminder.    I created a scene for each month, starting out by cutting 12 (one for each month) index card die cuts out of Whisper White card stock using my Big Shot machine.

This project took me about 4 hours to complete.  I tried to create each card in 15-20 minutes.  Most came together in under 1o.   If I didn’t time myself this project could have taken me forever to make, lol.

All Stamps, ink and accessories (other than Rolodex) by Stampin’ Up.

dsc01991.JPG

Since I don’t own stamps that have the names of the months on them, I computer generated them for use on my tabs.

dsc01992.JPG

When I completed a month I would stamp the totally tabs stamp over the month name using a coordinating color and then punch it out using my Tab punch.

dsc01993.JPG

Below are the scenes I created for each month.  :)

dsc02005.JPG

There are index cards behind each month card with the birthdays for that month on them.  Let’s hope this will help me get cards out on time.  :)   I think I will pick another Rolodex and alter it too, only next time use it as an address Rolodex, novel idea, huh, lol.

dsc02006.JPG

May your day be filled with nothing but happiness.

Huge Hugs and Happy Holidays,

Michelle

Pond Skating Greeting - Tutorial #287 and Ink Pads Winner

Published by zindorf under Tutorials

dsc01989.JPG

Good morning, good morning, good morning.   I am posting this and then I will run off to finish my Christmas shopping.  I just have one person left to buy for, my Mother.  My mother is the hardest one to buy for.  Especially since when you ask her what she would like for Christmas she gives you answers such as a Million Dollars, new car, new brain, lol.  We finally got a list from her so I will be able to finish all my shopping and hopefully wrap everything too.

Today’s tutorial is a holiday card.  I am sure you all have your cards all made and in the mail to the lucky recipients.   :)  Me, I am still plugging along.  Just when I think I am all done, I think of someone that I missed.  I sent out around 150 cards.  Postage is a killer, lol.  Enough whining from me.   I have a announcement to make!

dsc01960.JPG  The winner of the Stampin’ Up ink pads is. . . . . . . . . . .

Sandy S, TN who wrote “I would love to make a home for the inks, right now our funds are pretty tight and that would be a wonderful Christmas present (for me). Our family has agreed not to exchange gifts this year and just be glad for what we have. So thank you for the chance to receive your ink gift.”

Congrats Sandy S!   Please e-mail your mailing address to me at mzindorf@aim.com and I will pop these homeless pads into the mail to you.

Thanks everyone for playing along.  :)

One more thing, I updated my Travel photo page finally.  Thanks to everyone that has sent me photos from my brayer workshops they attended.  Here is a link if you want to check it out:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/travel-photos/

Or you can access it from the tab “Travel Pics” at the top of my blog.

Now on with today’s tutorial .. . . . . . ..

dsc01990.JPG

On a 4.5″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the Sentiment using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01961.JPG

dsc01962.JPG

Stamped the skaters by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Basic Black ink before stamping it.  Heat embossed the skaters using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01963.JPG

Masked the bottom of the card stock with post it notes, leaving about 1″ of the card stock showing at the top.   Sponged Not Quite Navy ink in the un-masked area.

dsc01964.JPG

Sponged Night of Navy ink right at the post it note edge to darken the horizon line.

dsc01965.JPG

Added Pretty in Pink marker to the skaters.

dsc01966.JPG

Added Real Red marker to the skaters.

dsc01967.JPG

Added creamy Caramel marker the male skater.

dsc01968.JPG

Added Sahara Sand marker to the skaters.

dsc01969.JPG

Colored in the girls collar and cuffs with Pretty in Pink and Real Red markers.

dsc01970.JPG

Colored the skater’s faces in with Blush Blossom marker.

dsc01971.JPG

Colored over the skaters with a Versamark marker, being very careful to stay within the embossed lines.  Also it helps to start with the light areas first and work your way to the dark areas, cleaning your Versamark marker tip often.   This helps keep the areas from bleeding into one another.

dsc01972.JPG

Heat embossed the skates using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01973.JPG

Tore some post it notes and masked the sky and snow areas.

dsc01974.JPG

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink into the pond area.

dsc01975.JPG

Added Brilliant Blue ink to the top of the pond area.

dsc01976.JPG

Edged the top of the pond using a Brilliant Blue marker.

dsc01977.JPG

Removed the post it note masks and wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

dsc01978.JPG

Using a torn post it note, sponged Tempting Turquoise ink at the torn edge of the post it note to create hills in the snow area.

dsc01979.JPG

Masked the sky area with post it notes and sponged Tempting Turquoise ink at the post it note edge to add color to the top of the snow area.

dsc01980.JPG

Added the line from the greeting to the skaters skate using a White Gel pen.  Also added a few dots in the sky.

dsc01982.JPG

Added Tempting Turquoise and Brilliant Blue Panels.  Also Added two large Whisper White photo corner punches.

dsc01983.JPG

Added Tempting Turquoise Brads to the photo corner punches using a piercing tool to start the brads.

dsc01984.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″

dsc01989.JPG

Before I close for today I want to share with you something I received from my friend, Gail Emmons but it was written by Linda Payne.   Gotta love it!  This is not just a recipe, lol.

Cranberry Bread
By Linda Payne
Quick Recipe:
Grab a box of Pillsbury Mix while at local grocery store. Rush home.
Pull out loaf pan and turn on oven, break open box and dump contents into a bowl. Add eggs, oil and water per box.
Mix by hand – who wants to clean beaters – until all is moist. Pour batter into loaf pan, dump bowl and spoon into sink.
Set oven timer for time on box…ask hubby to carry in the rest of the groceries!

Long Recipe
Get all dressed up. Have your hair and nails done. Go shopping with a friend. On the way home make short stop at local grocery store (a one bag stop and include box of quick bread). Call hubby and let him know you’re making him something special when he gets home…if he’s already home – perfect! Once home – change into something comfy and cute and give hubby a wink… because you’re making him something special!
Pull out your Kitchen Aid mixer…turn on some music. Bring out your eggs, oil, measuring cups…put on an apron…give hubby a wink…because you’re making him something special!!
Turn on oven; prepare your loaf pan by spraying it with non-stick spray. Pour contents of box into mixer bowl. Add oil – start mixer on slow…watch it for a few seconds…turn it off. Carefully add eggs – start mixer on slow…watch it for a few seconds…turn it off (is hubby watching? send him a wink! because you’re making him something special!)
Carefully measure and add the water…..start mixer on slow…watch it for a few seconds…turn it off. Scrape your bowl…turn mixer on and let it mix for two minutes…check oven. Throw away box, egg shells, and wash measuring cup – put away oil.
Stop mixer. Scrape bowl …slowly pour batter into loaf pan and scrape mixer bowl. Put loaf pan in oven. Light a candle or two… (Is hubby watching…send him a wink! because you’re making him something special!)
If kids are in bed or away…you should have his attention by now…would suggest setting the timer in case you are “distracted”…but if you’re at my house… I’ve ditched the apron and have begun stamping and need to hear the buzzer so I don’t burn up my “something special for hubby”!!! who is so engrossed in the Andy Griffith show for the umpteenth thousand time that he doesn’t even realize how hard I just worked on the Long Recipe!
Ladies, you decide which recipe you prefer! LOL

May you be blessed today!

Huge Hugs and Happy Holidays,

Michelle

Traditional Santa - Tutorial #286 and Homeless Ink Pads

Published by zindorf under Tutorials

dsc01954.JPG

My last post was of a non-traditional colored Christmas Card.  Well today’s is definitely a traditional Christmas card.   This tutorial is a long one since I show how to build a scene using the embossed resist technique.

Before we get into the tutorial, I want to give away some homeless ink pads and reinkers.  One of these pads have never been used and the rest have been used very little and have lots of good life left in them.  This give away includes the following Stampin’ Up Classic ink pads:

Riding Hood Red, Tangerine Tango, Pink Pirouette, Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss and 2 pads of Baja Breeze.  Also included is a reinker of Pacific Point and Kiwi Kiss.  :)

Can you give these pads a good home?  If so, leave a comment on this post to enter the give away.  If you are receiving this post via e-mail you will need to click this link and then leave a comment at the bottom of the post:   http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2009/12/11/traditional-santa-tutorial-286-and-homeless-ink-pads/

I will select the winner using a random number generate on Monday, December 14, 2009.  Please help me find them a good loving home.  Thank you.  :)

dsc01924.JPG

Oops!  Just seen that I colored the white fur on the bottom of his coat red.  Never fail, added some white gel pen to the bottom of this coat.

dsc01926.JPG

Used a heat gun and heated up the image to set the markers.

Colored over the image using a Versamark marker.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Now the image is protected from further applications of ink (emboss resist).

dsc01927.JPG

dsc01928.JPG

Tore a bit off the top of a post it note and used it to mask my snow in my scene.

dsc01929.JPG

Stamped the flourish using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the flourish using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01930.JPG

dsc01931.JPG

Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig, Over stamp the Flourish by loading my stamp with Versamark and then Tempting Turquoise ink before stamping it.

dsc01932.JPG

dsc01933.JPG

dsc01934.JPG

Heat embossed the flourish using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01935.JPG

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc01936.JPG

Wiped the emboss images off with a cotton towel or a paper towel.  I use an old dish towel.  Trying to stay green.  :)  Do this after each application of ink.

dsc01937.JPG

Brayered Not Quite Navy at the top of the card stock, not covering all of the Tempting Turquoise ink.

dsc01938.JPG

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the post it note edge to darken the horizon line.

dsc01939.JPG

Stamped the line of trees using Not Quite Navy ink only.  Wiped off the embossed images.

dsc01940.JPG

Moved the post it note down and added two hills by sponging Tempting Turquoise ink at the post it note edge.

dsc01941.JPG

dsc01942.JPG

Created texture in Santa’s beard by streaking White Gel pen on it.

dsc01943.JPG

Using a heat gun, heated the embossed images again to bring back the shine and to set the white gel pen.

dsc01944.JPG

Added a shadow for Santa by sponging Tempting Turquoise ink under him.

dsc01945.JPG

I learn things from my workshop students all the time.  Recently I learned from some smart ladies in Portland, Michigan, when you scrap a sponge full of ink against the card stock edge it is called “Whacking”, lol.  Sorry, when I say whacking it reminds me of watching the Sapranos.  Anyhow, I whacked the edges of the main image panel and a 5″ x 6.5″ panel of Real Red using Basic Black ink.  I like to put dark ink around the edges of my panels.  This saves me from putting a dark panel behind them.

dsc01946.JPG

Using my Stamp-a-ma-jig, stamped the sentiment using Basic Black ink.

dsc01947.JPG

Punched two Curly Labels from Basic Black card stock and folded each one in half.

dsc01948.JPG

Assembled the card, added the punched labels and Gold Brads.

dsc01949.JPG

Here is the completed card that measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Have you been good this year?  You know he is watching!

I realize this post has been long, but I have one more thing to share with you.  This was sent to me by my Aunt Nancy.  She said it remindered her of me since I travel so much and live by my GPS system.

Question:

What do you get when you mix PMS with GPS? Answer:

A crazy witch who WILL find you!
Do you think my Aunt is trying to tell me something, lol.

Until my next post. . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

2009 Non-Traditional Colored Christmas Card - Tutorial #285

Published by zindorf under Tutorials

dsc01913.JPG

Here is this year’s non-traditional colored Christmas card.  I think I needed someone here to tell me to “STEP AWAY FROM THE BRADS”.  Yes, I got a bit brad happy, lol.

I thought this would be nice for those people close to sandy beaches where it does not snow.  :)  You lucky people.  I am always doing snow scenes and that is probably a bit weird for someone to make that never sees snow.   So here is one for you warm climate blog readers.

Let’s get started. . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Delightful Decorations
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Really Rust and Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Stampin’ Up! More Mustard, Really Rust, Basic Black, Bravo Burgundy, Bordering Blue and Tempting Turquoise
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Dusty Durango Ribbon, Sponges, Bordering Blue marker, Ornament, Ticket Corner and Photo Corner Punches, Brayer, Gold Gel Pen, Piercing Tools, Gold Brads
